Chaz Bono

I don't have television so I'm a bit out of the loop when it comes to what the hot issues of the day are. So, lately, I've been hearing through the grapevine bits and pieces about Chaz Bono showing up in the media for announcing his plan to transition from a female to male.

My grandma even e-mailed me about it:
"I watched Chaz Bono being interviewed and he was so clear and intelligent about his transition. Of course it made me think a lot about you, Mel, and what life must have been (and is) for you. I continue to worry about your health and safety but heck, I worry the same about all of the family. I just want you to be whole and happy. To B U."
Awwww!

Go Chaz, for being open and brave about his transition, even in the face of a media onslaught.

I have been reading news online this. In one article released October 30th from People Magazine, Cher was quoted in regards to supporting Chaz's decision to pursue a sex change:
"The one thing that will never change is my abiding love for my child."
Awww again!

ET did an interview back in the day with Alexis Arquette when she came out as trans and media shit hit the fan. She said about Chaz:
"he is not alone and he’s never been alone and anyone like him will never be alone."
All n' all, I'm really excited about celebrities like Chaz and Alexis being out and proud and at least exposing the general population to the basic existence of transgender people.

  1. This is the first time I've seen Chaz since he started transitioning and he looks really good! I'm also glad he had the guts to just do it, despite the grumblings from both straight and lesbian people

  2. I think it's awesome that Chaz took the risk and put himself out there... it can go either way in this day and age and I just wish that it was "easier" for everyone who either is, or wants to transition... we live in a cruel cruel world sometimes for sure. And Granny sounds awesome and super supportive...that's a great thing :) Give her a hug the next time you see her.

As a warning, these photos are extremely graphic , but also incredibly informative and educational. This is why I’m displaying them after the “read more” button below instead of as a photo gallery. Exciting News from Utah!

Exciting things are happening in Salt Lake City, Utah! Last night there was a panel specifically about employment discrimination based on gender identity and a proposed diversity bill. It received a fair amount of media coverage, like this article in the Salt Lake Tribune: After losing her job, transgender Utahn fights workplace discrimination Salt Lake City resident Candice Metzler wanted to let her work colleagues see the transition she already had begun in her personal life. Known to them as a man, Metzler wore mascara, eyeliner and white-tipped acrylic nails to a company barbecue.
